Learn the history of our company

The Afoi A. Piteni AVEE is one of the largest food production and trading companies in Greece. It was founded in 1973 under the name “Agamemnon Pitenis”. In December 1997, it completed the creation of a new state-of-the-art food production unit, with a total area of 14,000 sq.m and building facilities of 3,000 sq.m, in order to cope with the new conditions of domestic and international competition.

Thus, with the long-standing trust of consumers in the company’s products and its family-based form of entrepreneurship, it managed in 2003 to produce over 100 different types of products using the most modern production methods and in accordance with all hygiene and safety rules, based on traditional Greek flavors.

In March 2003, it organizes a new headquarters-distribution company for its products, ‘Arkafood’ – Afoi A. Piteni CO GP , in Tripoli, with an integrated distribution network covering the wider area of Peloponnese. From 2004, the company gradually began to focus on the development of Biofunctional Products. Thus, it establishes Helenic Hepirus Bio-Technology R – Afoi A. Piteni CO GP , with distinguished biologists in the field, a Biotechnology Research Development company, intensifying research on the biofunctionality of its products. In 2009, it upgrades the distribution of its products in Central Macedonia, by creating a branch in Thessaloniki, while in 2010 it expands to the Attica region. In total, taking into account the autonomous distribution network in the Western Macedonia region, Afoi A. Piteni AVEE collaborates with more than 80 representatives to supply over 11,000 points of sale worldwide.

Since 2011, the company has expanded its activities into new lines of “Gourmet” Foods, launching products of even higher quality and nutritional value to the market, such as the Pitenis Premium, Okeanos EXCLUSIVE series and others. In February, it acquires its 2nd Patent, which concerns a solution of Kozani Saffron with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Finally, it has been certified and implements the Quality Assurance Management System “ISO – 22000:2005”, which includes the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points System “HACCP”, and the Food Safety Systems The Certification Plan for Food Safety Management (FSMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS) “FSSC 22000” Global Food Safety System and the “HALAL” Lawful Certification for Middle Eastern countries, while it has received certification of its products from the USA Food Drug Administration “FDA”, after on-site inspections
